Off to Washington & Oregon

I haven’t been posting for a while trying to get my Mac fixed. Couldnt find a reliable repair man that will fix within the tight time frame.

I am blogging from the plane heading over to Washington and then driving towards Portland for the day at which tomorrow Friday the 20th will be the start of a photography expedition capturing the beautiful landscape of both states.

Stay tuned to my twitter @abdullabintouq as I will being posting daily updates of encounters as we go forward.

Excuse my absence for a while as I will be coming back with awesome landscape images of the west.

These things happens for a reason

I couldn’t manage to post for a while as grief was taking over my body. When you get your monitor crashing it really gives you the moment of no more photography related topics to pursue. Though managed to do the following..

  • Clean my 5DMKII after the sandstorm I experienced at the empty quarter last weekend
  • Arranged the dividers of the camera bag, previous set up wasn’t working out and I slacked to fix it
  • Brought out my camping gear getting ready for my next photography expedition at which I will be announcing soon
  • saying that, I a sniffed a 5DMKIII out of the box last week. It really smelled great!

Let’s see if I can get it fix this week and manage to bring out some of my last week images of the empty quarter.. I will keep you posted.

Ahh, yes forgot to mention it got hit by the shelf on top of it at some point it decided to drop hard!

PS. I am using my PC which to post..

on the other side here is a link to my latest news coverage at AlKhaleej Newspaper. Enjoy the interview.

FotoTuesday: Ocean of Sand

Looking at sand dunes, for ours trying to form a composition made me stop and admire the formation of dunes that I was just looking at. Sometime composition is not very easy and just looking at dunes just about after mid day can give you a different perspective given the contrast of shadows.

Do excuse my quality of posting as I am facing a bit depression due to a shelve broke loose and fallen on my MacBook which now I see things a bit awkwardly funnt.

FotoTuesday: Sand Wave

While capturing this image I had the idea of capturing a sand wave showing how wave effect can be shown here clearly. keeping it simplicity is the key aspect of any imagery. In the desert we walk by such desert unnoticed which is really a shame. Walking around for some time trying to figure out what really works and waiting for the sunset you can capture some really beautiful texture in mid day light.

FotoTuesday: The Forces at Dusk

I always say that photography needs a pair of good eyes and a bit of madness. This image reminds me of how landscape photography can be really challenging. It can be really tough when you have waves like these coming in. . The waves were crashing on the rocks and as i was walking between them trying to make sure I don’t drift off was a little hard as i was  keeping my mind straight at where we were heading. The question always comes while capturing seascapes is it a high tide or a low tide at the moment?

I kept this image for a long time preserving it for a good day. I think its time for me leave my hard disk at present itself to the world. Enjoy viewing it. If you have questions about the features  please feel free to ask.

NEWS – Back on Flickr

Recently I’ve attended Peter Schwartz seminar in scenario planning and diving deeply into Social Media and how it’s becoming the next continent that has no government. It made me think a bit in the means of social media I am using which are just Twitter and Facebook. I remembered that’s there is Flickr which is still doing not bad and can connect me even better to people out there. To share knowledge images and learn from each other. Bridging the gaps from the East to the West, why not?

For some years now since I think 2005 Flickr was blocked from the users in UAE & perhaps some gulf countries and until recently I guess the regulatory bodies couldn’t keep up with uprising of social media and had to let go and open it up again. I tried looking back for the lost account and couldn’t manage to retrieve my amateur account which holds some nice memories. I decided to connect back again with a new account. Don’t miss out let’s stay more connected!

FotoTuesday: Blink of Hope

Deserts are known for having a variety of sand textures. Walking around for hours not noticing whats beneath you is a shame. I took sometime in appreciating what I am seeing from texture until I found what really captured my eyes. I kept this frame to be as simple as possible with the introduction of a little bit of life. The weather in the UAE at the moment is not the best, lately we have been experiencing l some South winds which are rare at this time of year and ending up with North winds. No rain recorded this year, gosh I think we are in the part of the world that really prays for rain where other places pray for warmer days.

OnTV: hosted by DubaiTV on Alonwan

Was cordially invited to be part of DubaiTV show Alonwan back in early February. I was featured to talk about the desert in general and showcased couple of my images about the desert. There are images showcased on TV and didn’t yet uploaded them on my website. Enjoy the video.

FotoTuesday: HipHop

It’s Tuesday all right and I would like to share an image with you. I participated lately in an exhibition called Changing Landscapes that took place at AlIttihad Towers in Abu Dhabi. HipHop was taken back in New Zealand at Moeraki Boulders. This image was captured after being in flight and transit for 32hours, then co-driving for 5hours, sleeping the night in a tent and finally walking for almost 4km to reach here. My mind wasn’t straight, exhaustion was taking over but it all payed off after this image was taken.

Video: Encounter with NZ Yellow eyed penguin

Back in July 2011 I was exploring the south Island of New Zealand early in the morning  at Curio bay. I encountered  on a sunrise shoot a yellow eyed penguin. It’s known as the rarest penguins out of the 6 breeds of penguins in New Zealand. There are 13 breeds of penguins worldwide, 6 of which are found in New Zealand.

They weigh between 5-6kg and they are the fourth of the largest penguins. They are listed based on NZ dept of Conservation as being threatened.

Excuse me for hand holding the i-phone on a vertical setup.

Enjoy!
